Granbury Lights Up for Christmas


It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in historic Granbury!

Granbury’s Lighted Christmas Parade, now in its 27th year, takes place on Friday, November 27th, starting at 6 pm. Every year the theme changes, so no two parades are ever the same. This year it’s called: “Happy Birthday, Jesus” and it tells the story of Christmas.

Arrive downtown early and enjoy candlelight, music, hot drinks, holiday-flavored popcorn, and good cheer! The Parade travels from the GISD Admin parking lot east on Pearl Street, then down three sides of the square continuing back on Bridge Street.  Santa and Mrs. Claus will only meet children at the Courthouse Gazebo (like all of us, they’ve been swamped with growing to-do lists; and well, checking them twice). All children waiting in line to greet Santa will receive a cookie and hot chocolate.

The Granbury Candlelight Tour, a beloved annual town tradition, returns once again for it’s 32nd year. Grab a candle and under its flickering flame visit seven historically significant homes and marvel in the architecture and furnishings of this magical place.

In addition to the tour, there’s plenty of holiday spirit to go around, including a horse drawn carriage to sample holiday goodies from merchants on the square. The town’s historic buildings and museums will open their doors for free to anyone to enjoy during the event hours. A public tram will offer complimentary lifts from the home sites back to the square.

One of the most popular weekends in Granbury is being kicked off “under the stars” on Thursday, April 24th with the Granbury Wine Walk VIP Wine Dinner at a private lakefront residence.  The dinner location is within walking distance from your stay at the Inn on Lake Granbury.   From 6pm-10pm, enjoy Texas wines, and food prepared and cooked by 6 of the top chefs in the Dallas/Fort area.  A jazz trio will provide live entertainment, and there will be a chef cook-off leading to a people’s choice award for “best chef”.

5th Annual Granbury Wine Walk Festival – April 25-26, 2014

This year will mark the 4th Annual Granbury Wine Walk in the beautiful town of Granbury, Texas.  Located right in the heart of downtown Granbury, the Wine Walk features Texas wine, food, music, and art.  The 2013 edition of the Granbury Wine Walk is a 2-day event that showcases 16 different Texas wineries from all over the Lone Star State.  Stroll through the downtown to outdoor booths for wine tasting and Texas cuisine, enjoy live music, including some of Granbury’s own unique talent, and preview artists showcased by the Lake Granbury Art Association.Granbury Wine Walk

On Thursday evening, April 25th, the “VIP Sip & Savor” culinary and wine event will be held on a private estate that overlooks Lake Granbury.  At this event, guests will enjoy a taste of Texas with succulent selections from Dallas-Fort Worth’s favorite celebrity chefs including:  Tiffany Derry, a “Top Chef” Season 7 favorite, Lou Lambert, “Big Ranch, Big City” cookbook author and owner of Lambert’s Steak and Seafood in Fort Worth, Eric Hunter, owner of Fire Oak Grill in Weatherford, Chris Garcia, owner of Del Norte Tacos in Godley, Kevin Martinez, chef of Tokyo Café in Fort Worth, and Molly McCook, chef of Ellerbe Fine Foods in Fort Worth.

The chefs will be accompanied by participating wineries from the Wine Walk.  Here, you can meet and learn about the chefs, savor the special entrees that are offered, and enjoy their distinct flavors and style of cooking. At the end of the evening, the coveted People’s Choice award for favorite chef and wine will be revealed.  Tickets for the VIP event may be purchased at web for $100 per person.  Proceeds will go to Mission Granbury and Preserve Granbury – the official beneficiaries of the 2013 Granbury Wine Walk.

Texas Independence Day

On March 2nd & 3rd, 2013, the Texas Independence Day Celebration of North Texas will be held on the Historic Granbury Square in Granbury, Texas.Texas Independence Day

One of the highlights will be 9 year old Ridge Roberts, Granbury’s own featured fiddle player!   Most of the songs that young Roberts knows by heart are those that speak about the beauty and history of Texas.  The Independence Day Celebration will also feature the Buttermilk Junction Old Time String Band and Buffalo Bill Cody’s Cowboy Band.  They will also sing tradition tunes of frontier Texas and some old-time American music to capture the spirit of Texas History.

Blacksmiths, leather workers, cotton spinners, wool spinners and beekeepers will be among the merchants representing their handiwork.   Visitors can also sample authentic chuck wagon fare from the surrounding counties.   There will also be Living History presentations about the Alamo and Davy Crockett, Wiiliam Travis, and Sam Houston.

Hood County Texas Hosts the 29th Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes!

Hood County Texas‘Tis the season for hot chocolate, coats & scarves, and the 29th Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes in Granbury, Texas! Every year, when the cooler weather sets in, the historical homes of Hood County Texas turn on their Christmas lights and open their doors for you to experience the magic and charm of these beautiful homes.

It is a weekend long holiday event that you and your loved ones should experience and will most definitely never forget. This delightful occasion will begin on Friday, November 30th with a Christmas concert by First Presbyterian Church, featuring the Melody Belles female chorus!  Festivities will continue through Sunday evening. There will be music every hour, highlighting your favorite Christmas carols and winter songs by various musicians.

At the Nutt House Hotel, local celebrities will be hosting A Children’s Christmas Story Hood County TexasTime: Stories for the Young at Heart, a wonderful opportunity to share with your child and keep cozy from the cool weather! The tour will also have choirs and musical events held in the newly remodeled Granbury Courthouse and Granbury Live Theatre. Some of the other special highlights of the tour are the spectacular displays of over 700 individual Nativity scenes and the new Granbury Doll House on Bridge Street. Granbury TX Hosts Theatre Presentation of Willie The Kid

Granbury TX hosts Willy the KidOn October 26th, and 27th, the Nutt House Hotel will be hosting a dinner theater production you won’t want to miss! “Willie the Kid” is a silly melodrama that will allow the audience to boo and hiss at the villain, as well as, leave you in tears from the crazy antics of the characters! The Nutt House is located right on the Granbury Square and only 2 blocks from our Granbury Texas Bed and Breakfast.

This Lake Granbury TX area hotel was started when two blind brothers, Jesse and Jacob Nutt, established a small mercantile business in 1893. Both brothers became blind in their early childhood, therefore, their youngest brother, David, served as their “eyes.” The Texas State Historical Society named the Nutt House a cultural and historical landmark in 1968.

Mary Lou’s Dinner Palace Theatre started earlier this year and has successfully provided comedies, musicals, murder mysteries, stand-up comedy acts, and all sorts of musical entertainment. Come out and enjoy this zany western show and let the characters know whether you like them, love them, or can’t stand the mere sight of them! Throw your popcorn at them, too! Award-winning Texas Winery, Bluff Dale Vineyard hosts Jordan Cannaday on Saturday, August 25th. Cannaday is a New England musician and recording artist, whoTexas Winery hosts Jordan Cannady is a founding member of the DRAM BOYS, a duo specializing in acoustic Scottish & Celtic folk music. Not only will you be entertained by his music; he’ll be sharing his interesting and zany stories.

Jordan Cannaday has performed professionally for 42 years in nearly all regions of the United States, as well as Canada, Iceland, Wales and Scotland. He’s sung in a variety of venues from Robbie Burns Dinners in Toronto to Ocean Liners in Long Beach California. He’s been part of the featured musical entertainment in a number of historic events including the famous Culzean Castle in Scotland, the largest Shakespeare in the Park in the US! Jordan also is an expected musician and singer in the Atlanta, Georgia music scene appearing in concert at the Harp numerous times for the last 3 years.

Bluff Dale Vineyards is located only 15 miles from our Granbury Texas Bed and Breakfast. Granbury City Beach is Throwing a Summer Bash!

Dont miss the fun at Granbury City Beach on Saturday, August 25th, as the City of Granbury, Texas will be hosting a huge Summer Bash at the City Beach Park! What better way to beat the heat and enjoy some entertainment and R&R? 

Our Granbury City Beach always offers concessions, a mini-water park, and plenty of picnic tables for you to enjoy refreshments and shade while relaxing at the beach. This special event will have beach games, a volleyball tournament, dancing, entertainment, and live music. The beach is also one of the starting points for Granbury’s bike trail that winds its way through our city parks and around the Veteran’s Museum and several historic attractions.
